What We are About
Formed with a passion for music and a commitment to our community, Crystal Palace Brass Bands (CPBB) is a registered charity dedicated to the tradition of British brass banding.
Based in the shadow of the historic Crystal Palace, we believe that music should be accessible to everyone. Our charity provides instruments, tuition, and performance opportunities to musicians of all backgrounds. Whether we are performing on a prestigious concert stage or at a local summer fete, our goal remains the same: to keep the vibrant sound of brass music alive for generations to come.
Our Mission
To advance and encourage the study and performance of playing brass band instruments.
To educate the public in the appreciation of brass band music through the presentation of concerts and performances.
To support other charitable institutions by organizing concerts to raise funds for their causes.
The Core Pillars
Based in South East London, the band (founded in 1901) fulfills these objectives through several key activities:
- Performance: Playing at local venues, Royal Park concerts, community events, and competitions.
- Education and Development: The “Community Band” provides training for new and returning players of all ages and abilities.
- Community Engagement: Running multiple groups, including a “6 O’clock Brass” starter ensemble for beginners.
The charity ensures its activities provide public benefit by promoting musical education and community engagement.
The Ensembles
- The Main Band: Our premiere performing ensemble for experienced musicians.
- The Community Band: A supportive environment for those returning to music or just starting their journey.
